This movie is the definition of superfluous. The plot is that Todd and Copper are taken to a country fair together. At this fair Copper joins a group of singing hound dogs and becomes enamored with the lifestyle. Because of this he forgets Todd and leaves him behind. Copper has to choose between the singing group and his friendship with Todd. I never cared to see more adventures between Todd and Copper, especially not Copper’s potential singing career. The original movie covered the period of time brilliantly. They were thick as thieves as pups and only grew apart when Cooper went off on a hunting trip for months and became a true hunting dog while Todd became the prey. This movie, however, implies their friendship was not as strong as previously insinuated. Todd should not have been surprised that Copper abandoned their friendship at the drop of a hat. Putting these inconsistencies aside, this movie has such a generic plot. The only bright spot are the few new songs. The animation style looks generic, losing the charm of the original, and it clumsily adds CGI background which do not match with the 2D animated characters. Overall, Fox and the Hound 2 is not worth watching. It would have been more interesting if we explored their adult years. Even then, I feel Fox and the Hound was a near perfect film, and its story needed no expansion. This sequel was a blatant cash grab with no artistic ingenuity or exploration- just a cookie cutter film.
`Final Rating: 1/10
