After watching The Black Cauldron, I was looking forward to watching anything to cleanse my palate from that mess of a film and this film fit that bill perfectly. It is nothing special, but it is a return to form for Disney. It is reminiscent of The Rescuers from a decade prior (a film which I, unexpectedly, really enjoyed). This movie is based on a book, Basil of Baker Street, which, in turn, is based on the character of Sherlock Holmes. It is wonderfully British and a cute mystery caper for children. The villain’s plain is unfortunately simplistic and shallow, but I enjoyed the ingenuity of Basil and his deductive prowess in getting out of numerous sticky situations with his newfound partner, Dr. Dawson. The world is fairly narrow in scope, but the visuals are stunning, especially the clock tower scene. I would enjoy watching further adventures with the duo as I grew found of them. Besides them the film was a charming romp without much substance but worth a quick watch, especially for younger children.
Final Rating: 6.5/10
