This movie is Blue Sky’s second after Ice Age. It comes from a time when they were still trying to prove themselves and had not yet decided to rely solely on Ice Age movies. I love the world of this film; it is so fleshed out and believable. The movie itself is hilarious, with plenty of jokes for children and adults alike. It also has the good message, if not a bit cliched, of accepting yourself the way you are and using your unique talents to improve the world. The voice acting is fantastic (Robin Williams particularly shines as the comic relief with a little heart). The plot follows a robot named Rodney, an aspiring inventor, who moves to Robot City so he can fulfill the dream of working for his idol. Once he arrives, however, he encounters a plot by the company’s new owner to force all robots to buy upgrades instead of repairs. The villain is a big mama’s boy, and this is played really well to comical effect. Rodney is a likable protagonist and is a great vehicle for the audience to explore the wild and wacky world of the film. I wish there were a sequel, but unfortunately it did not do well enough to warrant Blue Sky producing one. I highly recommend watching Robots, a highly underrated film, and a hidden gem among Blue Sky’s library.

Final Rating: 8/10
