I want to start off by saying that I am so very thankful that this is currently the last movie in the Ice Age franchise. I will go back on review the earlier movies I did not review so, unfortunately, I will be returning to this universe, but the earliest movies are much better. Starting off, the plot is that an asteroid is heading to Earth, promising to wipe out the entire population. Manny, Diego, Sid, and their families are tasked with figuring out a way to reroute the asteroid, thus saving the world. The movie hit the ground running, making me double check that I had not skipped a movie. The plot points in question were the addition of Manny’s daughter getting engaged (which becomes a major plot point throughout this film) and Sid’s dating life. The former is a fine concept, though the latter is unnecessary and annoying as I dislike Sid, but there was no set up sequence. Additionally, a continuing grip I have with all of these films is the character of Scrat. He is very irritating and unnecessary, somehow causing all of the disasters (he really is the ultimate villain!) I wish he would have died after the original film and left mother nature alone to create the natural disasters. Moving on, the jungle environment was a refreshing change of scenery and the animation is good, as always. Unfortunately, this film is filled with juvenile jokes, stagnant characters, and a nonsensical and commonplace plot and I do not recommend anyone watch this film. Hopefully, this is the last we will see of these characters (though I will not hold my breath) and Blue Sky Studios will return to experimenting and creating unique concepts like Epic and Robots.
Final Rating: 3/10
