This is yet another cinematic Doctor Seuss adaptation. The story is an elephant named Horton, on account of his large ears, discovers a hidden group of Whos who live on a speck. No one believes him, however, which causes misfortune for both Horton and the Whos. My biggest problem with the film is a weird and unnecessary subplot with the mayor of Whoville’s only son who does not want to be a mayor. In the world of the film, the oldest member of the Mayor of Whoville’s family becomes the next mayor and this tradition has been repeating for generations. This plot point distracts from the main story and is not expounded upon in any meaningful way and is swiftly concluded during te final minutes of the film. I feel no attachment to the son, and I would much rather his screen time gone to the Mayor or his wife. Aside from this annoyance, the story has a good message of standing up for the truth, even when it would be beneficial for you in the short term not to. Additionally, the animation style is cute, and the majority of characters are likable or interesting. Horton Hears a Who! Is one of the better doctor Seuss adaptations and is worth watching despite its narrative flaw on account of its characters and animation quality.

Final Rating: 6/10
