I vaguely remember seeing advertisements for this film when it came out nearly 15 years ago. The plot of the movie centers around two lions, a father, and a son, who live in the Central Park Zoo in New York City. The son is accidentally shipped to Africa and his father, along with a few other zoo animals, have to rescue him. It is almost identical to the plot of Madagascar which came out the year prior. The main two characters in this movie are stereotypical (while the side characters are annoying and uninteresting) and one note and the animation are bland with no unique style or identity. The movie does have one good moment, a shot of the New York City Skyline and Time Square which was fairly impressive. Additionally, the movie is also littered with odd pop song choices that take away from the movie instead of adding to it and any attempt at humor falls flat. Overall, The Wild is a poorly made and blatant rip off of Madagascar. Disney is usually a trailblazer in the realm of animation, so this movie is very disappointing and almost unwatchable (a bright spot is this movie barely broke even at the box office and is largely forgotten).
Final Rating: 2/10
