This is another TV show movie and I do not know anything the original show. The premise of this movie is that the main character is a dog named Spot who wishes he were a boy so he dresses up as a boy named Scott so he can attend school. His owner, Leonard, however, wishes he were a normal dog. Leonard’s mom, their fourth-grade teacher, is a finalist for a national teacher’s award so she and Leonard travel to Florida without Spot because there are no dogs allowed on the vehicle they are loaned for the cross-country journey. While Spot is at home, he learns of a scientist who, supposedly, able to turn animals into humans. He then decides to hitch a ride with Leonard to make his dream of becoming a real boy come true. This movie’s art style is strange and uncomfortable but perhaps is faithful to the tv show. The voice acting is fine. One weird detail is that this movie is a musical for some reason. The songs are not particularly good and do not add to the narrative. Nevertheless, I grew to like the characters over the course of the film, but I was left unsure if this movie was a good representation of the tv show. My final opinion is that I think it is an entertaining romp and one of the better TV movies Disney has released theatrically and a fine waste of an hour and a half.
Final Rating: 5/10
