Doug's 1st Movie (March 26, 1999)

Like with DuckTales I had never watched a full episode of Doug, in either its Nickelodeon or Disney incarnation. So again, I am not the target audience for this movie. The basic plot is as follows: Doug and his best friend Skeeter start out the movie exploring the woods for proof of a lake monster. They return home to find the monster has followed them. They are tasked with hiding the monster as it is proof that the lake it was found in has been polluted illegally. This is interwoven with a parallel plotline of an upcoming Valentine’s Day school dance which is planned by Doug’s crush, Patti, and his rival for her affection, Guy. This story is very weak, unfocused, too long, and uninteresting. I do not feel connection to the characters (because I do not know them) and this movie does nothing to endear them to me. Doug’s 1st Movie did not do well at the box office and ended plans for any sequels and serves as the end of the series. Perhaps if you were a Disney’s Doug fan you would enjoy this movie a little but for everyone else it is not worth watching.
