This was the only Pixar film I had not watched in its entirety. It was their second feature film after Toy Story in 1995 and was another example of how CGI would be the eventual future of animation. It definitely shows its age and is a testament to how far the medium has come in the proceeding decades. I will not fault the film in this respect as the medium was still new and so the effects are not great by today’s standards. That being said the movie was good. I enjoyed the main character, an ant named Flik, who is a misfit among his colony but steps up to save them with the help of a troop of circus bugs from an attack by a gang of grasshoppers. I especially liked the villain, Hopper, who was menacing and very entertaining. He is one of Pixar’s’ better villains and his voice actor, Kevin Spacey (quite fitting!) does a fantastic job bring the character to life. A Bug’s Life is not one of Pixar’s best movies, but it certainly is a terrific sophomore effort by the studio which would eventually be acquired by Disney in 2006.

Final Rating: 6.5/10
